3 Things Natural Born Leaders Do (That You Can Do Too)

Over my 20 years as a business coach, I’ve met thousands of business owners. Some seem to thrive naturally, while others constantly struggle.

What sets the “natural born” leaders apart?

There are 3 things they do that stand out to me, and the best part is: you can do them all too.

1. They Believe in Themselves and Their Teams.

If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody else will. What do you believe about yourself and your ability to get things done? Your self-belief significantly impacts your success. Some develop it early on, while others learn it as adults. But it is a learnable skill and not something you have to be born with.

Equally crucial is believing in your team. If you don’t, you either have the wrong team or you need to figure out why you lack confidence in them.

2. They Never Stop Learning.

For a business to grow, its leader must also grow. John Maxwell describes this as the “Law of the Lid.” The world is constantly evolving, and continuous learning is essential to stay ahead.

Natural born leaders commit to things like reading one book per month, attending a workshop quarterly, or listening to a business podcast weekly. Then they implement their key takeaways.

The crucial step often overlooked between setting a goal and taking action is learning. Without learning what it takes to achieve the goal (new skills, new perspectives), we’re likely to fall short.

3. They Don’t Go It Alone.

Natural born leaders leverage feedback and support.

Whatever problem you have now, every other business owner has either had that problem before or they will have it in the future. And as you grow, these challenges often resurface on a larger scale.

Trying to do everything on your own can be painful and time-consuming.

So don’t hesitate to seek support, whether through a coach, mentor, mastermind group, or training program. You’ll achieve your goals faster by getting feedback and leveraging the experience of others.

If you’re ready to embrace your potential as a successful business leader, even if it doesn’t come naturally, let’s schedule a quick conversation to figure out what you can do, not the natural born way but the learned way.
