We are in the Fourth Quarter of the year, also known as the Home Stretch! This is the time of year to look at where you are and choose where you want to be at the end of the year. Over the last 15 years, I have identified 5 Keys to Finishing the Year Strong.
Key #1 is to Prioritize – it is really easy to get caught up in all the minutiae of the day, so setting your Top 2-3 Priorities that you can use to keep you on track is vital. Then share these priorities with your team.
Key #2 is to Set Goals – and be ruthless in your pursuit of the Results/Outcomes you choose to achieve in Q4.
Key #3 is to Engage your Team – by openly sharing priorities and goals and discussing the possibilities with them. Get their ideas, brainstorm, no idea is a bad idea. Lead the discussion towards what CAN be done, not what can’t. Help them feel part of the Priorities and Goals, to understand their part, and they can help you get there.
Key #4 is to Remove Barriers and Obstacles – now that your team is onboard (or even if it is just you), your job when you are wearing your Leadership hat is to anticipate and remove anything that could get in the way of achieving your Priorities and Goals.
Key #5 is to Know Your Numbers – every growing business should have a scorecard, including daily, weekly, and monthly performance metrics related to your Priorities and Goals. You can measure both Key Activities and Key Outcomes. Teach your team and share the numbers with them, help them to focus their activities and results.
Make it a Great Q4! Let us know how we can help.
